Painting with James Franco: a panel discussion about the making of the book CLASSIC PENGUIN
Laughs, awesome Penguin swag, and great stories were abundant, as was the record-setting attendance at last night's salon at the Type Directors Club. The panel was comprised of members of Penguin Random House discussing Classic Penguin—Cover to Cover, the ultimate book about book covers and jackets.
A glimpse inside the process, the stories from Paul Buckley, Penguin's creative director, about the amazing illustrations and equally amazing personalities behind the covers of one of the greatest publishers of the last century.
The variety of the book covers are hanging all around the room in an exhibition. And there was a chair reserved for 'J. Franco' but James did not make an appearance. Paul approached James to do some work and he did and he did a great job!
The covers are an exhibition called 'Classic Penguin: The Exhibition' which is up at the Type Directors Club from April 4 - May 25 at 347 W 36th Street, #603 New York, NY 10018. The exhibition is free and open to the public Monday to Friday, 9 am to 4 pm by appointment only. Call 212-633-8943 or email director@tdc.org.
