Whitney Biennial 2017

Yesterday I started a journey that is the 2017 Whitney Biennial. I decided to break the show up into reasonable sections, today was the fifth floor.

The idea behind the Biennial is to spotlight new, lesser-known artists who are making incredible contributions in every conceivable facet of the art world today.

Larry Bell's large glass cubes on the 5th floor deck were a lot of fun to photograph. I also enjoyed the eerie atmospheric photography of John Divola.

At left is me enjoying a Carrie Moyer painting, Glimmer Glass, 2016, acrylic and glitter on canvas.

Another very interesting series to consider is Frances Stark's Censorship Now!! where she painted the title essay from the book by artist, writer, musician Ian F. Svenonius, each page-spread as wall-sized paintings.

I strongly urge anyone who loves cutting/bleeding edge art to come out to the meatpacking district and explore as much as you can.
