Tony DiSpigna at Type Directors Club

March started off strong at Type Directors Club with a salon featuring lettering master and font designer Tony DiSpigna in support of his book, Love Letters.

Love Letters is a tour de force of Tony's intense specialization of the lettering style, Spencerian Script. He breaks down the process he's been using long before the advent of the computer: he pencils out the design then he inks it using a variety of fun tools. Old school.

Tony was a partner at the fabled Lubalin and Associates, NYC. Teacher, lecturer, & author, he's won numerous design awards and continues working today.

Here's a few examples of Spencerian Script set up around Type Directors Club. The first one is pencil on 18"x24" ungessoed canvases (try doing that).
